Step1
Call out to see if anyone knows CPR. There may be a health professional or someone with CPR experience within earshot who can help you. Continue to call out at least a few times, loud enough to let passersby hear you. Tell them you need help. Ask if anyone knows CPR.

Step2
If the person is an infant (under 12 months), put your ear to his mouth and listen for any breathing. If the infant is not breathing, go directly to the related eHow at the bottom of this page.

Step3
Look for a Medical Alert tag on his wrist. If he has one, do what it says.

Step4
Tap him on the shoulder and ask him if he is all right. If you get a response ask him his name, and use it.

Step5
Check his airway. Gently tilt his head back with your palm on his forehead, and with your other hand lift his chin, as if you are pulling his chin out. This will open up the airway and allow for air to easily pass through his nose and mouth to his lungs. Do Not Tilt His Head If You Suspect Neck or Head Injury!!!!

Step6
Check his breathing. Look at his chest to see if he is breathing, then put your hand on his chest to see if it rises.

Step7
Check his circulation. Place your index and middle fingers on the side of his neck directly below his chin between the front of the throat and the muscle that is next to it.

Step8
Call 911 if he has been unconscious more than a minute or two.

Step9
Tell the operator to send a paramedic.

Step10
Be ready to give the 911 operator the following information: The address of your current location, the approximate age of the person who fainted, what you know about him regarding his current condition (whether he is unconscious, partially conscious, incoherent, having convulsions, drifting in and out of consciousness, etc.), the events leading up to this, and any medical history you may know about the person (diabetes, past heart attacks, past strokes, etc.)

Step11
Loosen any tight clothing at his neck or waist.

Step12
Stay with him; ask often how he is doing, if he is okay. Reassure him.
